"Lamplight" July 2020
9.5m long x 4m wide x 4.0m high; aluminium, hardwood, dichroic glass, LED lights
“Lamplight” honours the 14 miners killed in the 1979 coal mining disaster. The tunnel is composed of 14 columns which each carries a flame of coloured glass referencing the miner's safety lamps. The intimate seating is surrounded by a garden of native scented plants. The mesh walls are patterned with maps of the underground workings and conveyor belts of coal. By night, 14 columns of white light speak to the spirit of the departed.
